Splat!
A Night for Art and Music and Ben Way
Features the original creations of William Attaway, Jimmy Herciuk, O,
Kelly Benway, James Davis and David Hinnebusch, six West-side artists
celebrate their successes with an inside exhibition of new work at 6:00
p.m. on May 19th 2007 at Benway Music in Santa Monica, Ca.
The styles and backgrounds of the works are mixed. The artists paint in
various post- modern, expressionistic, pop and "street" styles.
The underlying theme is that pure creative energy thrives in many aesthetic
forms in the hot bed of kitch commercialism that is Los Angeles and the
six are inextricably linked- like fists holding brushes which splatter
and splash the colors of life out from the Pacific Ocean at Venice and
Santa Monica into the rest of Southern California and the world.
Bill Attaway is know for his large public works projects on Venice Beach
and in Southern California. Jimmy Herciuk and O sell and exhibit their
paintings on Oceanfront in Venice and have an international client base.
Kelly Benway takes years of rock and roll & pop culture paraphernalia
from N. Y. to L. A. She incorporates it into a mass collage exhibiting
her own personal hard knocks and puck rock. Los Angeles artist John
Davis' "acrylic on anything" works are inspired by his
years in the underground music and art scenes and the unpredictable
streets of Hollywood.
Santa Monica resident artist David Hinnebusch has done commissioned work
with Venice artist Laddie John Dill for the City of Santa Monica and Venice
Art Walk.
